As it is a fact that Pakistan has a very attractive, descent, and polite geographical composition and structure. It is because of the many features which Pakistan have in their northern areas. Skardu is another backbone of Pakistan tourism and it holds the title of paradise on earth because of tourism. Pakistan has something for visitors in every season across the globe. In Pakistan you can enjoy your trip in summer and winters also.

What’s the Meaning of skardu?

The name “Skardu” is believed to be derived from the Balti word meaning “a lowland between two high places.” The two mentioned high places are satpara lake and shigar city.

What’s the Location of skardu?

It is located along the Kohistan-Ladakh terrane, formed as a magmatic arch over a Tethyan subduction zone that was later accreted onto the Eurasian Plate.

What’s the History of skardu?

We can clearly feel the presence of many ancient civilizations and culture. This area was also ruled by many kings and empires. Everyone leaves their culture, lifestyle and traditions which have dominant effect on the area.

Skardu was an element of the Kushan Empire, which had its core in northern India and its borders stretching into Central Asia, in the early centuries AD. After the Tibetan Empire conquered the area in the eighth century, Buddhism was introduced to the province.

The Balti ruler Ali Sher Khan Anchan accepted Islam and brought it to the area at the beginning of the 16th century. Islam grew and eventually took over as the predominant religion in Gilgit and the neighboring regions.

The numerous mosques and other Islamic religious buildings that are still in place in Skardu today are evidence of Islam’s impact. Among the most noteworthy is the Kharpocho Fort Mosque, which is regarded as one of the area’s oldest mosques still standing.

In 19^th century, Skardu became a backbone of the trade between India and central Asia. This town was also the part of Dogra empire, and it was the princely state which was covered most of the area in northern India and Himalaya region.

Thus in 1947, Pakistan became an independent state under the British rule, and in 1948 became a part of newly formed state, Pakistan.

Then it became more famous for tourism in Pakistan because of the natural beauty and natural sceneries which are soul refreshing. A wide range of racial and religious origins may be found living there now.

What People of Skardu are called?

The Shina is the major ethnic group of Gilgit-Baltistan. Mostly peoples from that tribe can be seen in Gilgit. Mostly of them is nomadic people.

Spoken languages in skardu?

The official language of Gilgit Baltistan and skardu is Urdu because, Urdu is the national language of Pakistan. Urdu can be spoken mostly but however, numerous of languages can be spoken there because it depends on the ethnic and cultural background of the tribe or group of people. Other languages may be

Deosai National Park

About 28 kilometres from Skarrdu, this national park is home to the second-highest plateau on Earth and is renowned for its breathtaking beauty and varied fauna, which includes brown bears and snow leopards.

Shigar fort

Shigar fort is located in the nearby town of shigar, this fort is a 17th-century palace that has been renovated. Due to its historic significance and amazing architecture, it is now a hotel and museum for the visitors.

Katpana desert

One of the best, coldest and beautiful desert in Pakistan is located in Skardu. It take the tourism to another level. Its best to visit this desert in summer for better experience.

Satpara lake

This lake is amazing tourist hub for the visitors. This lake contains clear water and its located above from the town on the way to Deosai plains. Satpara lake is the only way for people of skardu to drink pure water. This lake is shadowed in the high Majestics peaks of Pakistan called Karakoram. You can enjoy boating, fishing and camping there in satpara lake.

Kharpochu fort

Kharpocho Fort, which dates back to the 16th century, is a significant monument in the community. Perched on a hill, the fort provides breathtaking views of the surroundings. Perched on a tall hill with a commanding outlook of the Indus River, this fort provides amazing views of the valley below. Constructed in the sixteenth century, the fort is a well-liked tourist attraction.

K2 base camp

One of the world’s best adventure vacations is the K2 Base Camp Trek. June and September are the ideal season to hike to K2 base camp. As skardu is the starting point of the many treks. Which is located in the foots of world second highest mountain.

K2 Base Camp and Gondogoro La Trek

In Pakistan’s Karakoram Range, a well-liked multi-day trekking excursion is the K2 Base Camp and Gondogoro La Trek. While the later walk crosses the Gondogoro Pass and offers breathtaking vistas of high peaks, the former trek leads to the base of K2, the second-highest mountain in the world. Lower kachura lake

This lake is located 16 kilometers away from skardu and its also called the Shangrila lake. This lake is surrounded by green meadows, small hotels, and restaurants. This lake is well known for photography and videography for people to show that I have visited to Gilgit.

Upper kachura lake

This lake is also called kachura lake and it is located 18 kilometers away from the skardu town. This lake is well known for the clear crystal water and it’s surrounded by the green lush mountains. Tourists can enjoy picnicking, boating, fishing and camping nearby to the lake.

Best season to visit skardu?

There is no specific answer for this question because everyone has their own personal experience and personal choices and activities we do generally.  Actually, the best and peak tourist season is from May to September, when the weather is pleasant and the roads are clear from glaciers. During May to September, the days are usually long and clear blue sky can be seen so we can explore the natural sceneries very well and memorable in the summers.

May and June often have moderate, pleasant weather, with daily highs of 20 to 25 degrees Celsius (65 to 77 degrees Fahrenheit). This is the ideal time of year to walk and take in this amazing region’s splendor.

November marks the beginning of the winter season, which ends in March. Although many roads and hiking trails are blocked during this time of year, it may still be a great place to visit if you prefer winter activities like skiing and snowboarding.

I think that summer is the best season to visit skardu because weather will be moderate, days will be longer, sky will be clean, no fear of stones throwing from mountains etc.

How can I reach to skardu?

Skardu is located in the northern areas of Pakistan. The easiest way to get there is by plane or by air. Here I recommend by air because the journey is too long by road and it will be very tiring journey and there will be also shortage of facilities like shops, petrol pumps, hotels and restaurants etc.

By Air:

The quickest and most comfortable way to reached skardu is by air or by plane. Pakistan international airlines (PIA) and air blue, operates daily flights to Gilgit. It takes just one hour from the Islamabad airport with amazing and heart catching sceneries of Himalayas and the plains. You can take flight from Karachi, Lahore and Islamabad as well.

By Road:

Traveling by road will be little bit tiring and longer. It takes 18 to 20 hours from Islamabad to skardu. But I must say that you can explore many others attractive tourist hubs on the way to Hunza like you can explore the beauty of Mansehra, Abbottabad, Naran kaghan, Babusar top if you will traveling by road.  The distance between Islamabad and skardu is 570 kilometers. Traveling by road can may be challenging in different places.

Tips before going to skardu?

1. Best time to visit skardu is from May to September.
2. Try to travel in planes instead of cars and buses.
3. If you are traveling by road than keep all the necessary goods with yourself because the distance is too longer.
4. Try to keep extra petrol in the large bottles for cars and buses otherwise you will suffer.
5. Keep extra food with yourself.
6. Try to communicate with the locals for information of tourist destinations..
7. Try to travel with just 4 humans in the car because the distance is too long so, you will may suffer and will be disturbed.
8. Keep first aid box and necessary medicines for safety.
9. Downloads many movies to cover the distance without hesitating and if you are interested in reading so, carry book with yourselves.
